The Ceramics department at the University of Gloucestershire (UK) is closing down. We have found good homes for most of the small portable equipment but have available a Venco 4" de airing horizontal pug mill, a Ratcliff 3" Vertical Pugmill and an ancient but very good dough mixer. Approx 100kg...

Pottery on Cable show by Marmaj40
Has anyone seen the pottery show on DIY network? It is neat to see a potter demonstrate on TV. I think it is on at 3:30 Eastern Daylite time, and on at 12:30 Pacific Daylite. You can go to DIYNetwork.com and it tells you what has been done and what is coming up. Also will tell us in USA when it...

Problems reconciling controller temp to cone: way over fired! by tony
It's not strictly temperature. it is temperature over time. If you were to hold at cone 5 temp for some extended time, cone 6 will drop. If you take it to cone 5 temp, fast, and shut off, cone 4 will just bend. and 5 will be unaffected. Cones measure "heat-work," not just temperature so...

Southwestern Native American Pottery Yahoo Group by Clark Case
Recently, after a buying few pieces at estate auctions, I've become interested in the pottery of Southwestern Native Americans. After doing some web searches, I was very suprised to see that there didn't seem to be any forums established specifically for the discussion of this subject. So, I...

three legged bowl by sandi
Hello Everyone, I would like to make a slab built bowl (draped over a mold) with texture on the inside and I'd like to put three legs on it. I would be shaping the legs or feet from a slab wrapped around the short end of a wooden spout maker so they will be hollow. My question is do you have to...

Dry matt barium glaze (Ox ^6-10?) by wayneinkeywest
Try going to www.digitalfire.com They have an excellent substitution listing. Personally, I would stay as far away from that glaze as I could. You don't mention what cone you are firing to, but considering the toxicity of the two items (barium and lithium) perhaps you would be better off using a...

Firing Decals on Store-bought Ceramic Wall Tiles by Marni
I've been thinking about buying some plain white, glazed ceramic wall tiles and then applying decals on them, and firing the decals. Has anyone tried this? I think it would work since decals are only fired to somewhere around ^018 (not sure, have to look it up again). Marianne

Q. about glazing techniques by bking
First of all, I'm not a potter, I'm an interested onlooker. I have some questions, I wondered if it's appropriate to ask them here. I don't have access to a university library and our local library has nothing that will help. If you can recommend any books that would be good too. I would like to...

ceramic bowls 'expiring' by Kate
I have a set of 3 hand thrown red clay bowls made in 1983 that all chipped badly within a month of each other just now. Do ceramic vessels 'expire' or go bad somehow after a while? I used the bowls every day for 20 years and certainly got my use out of them, but I was puzzled that they all...

sales at craft shows? by Sandy
I have been doing juried craft shows for a few years now and have been fairly successful. My work has changed over these years, I've switched from white earthenware with my own designs painted on them (mugs, planters, sugars and creamers) to some funky hand-built stoneware. My question is, is it...

Can someone test my clay? by knob
My latest project to irritate my wife is playing in the mud. My two small children and I mixed up a batch of clay and had a great time doing it. I'm building a pottery wheel right now and if my clay is good I will also build a kiln. Please note that I do not intend to make great works of art, we...
