What does "salty" diamond mean? And 11k white gold? by
AuroraeB
What does it mean when a jeweler refers to diamonds in a ring as being "salty"?
Does this mean it is not a real diamond? A poor quality diamond?
I had a ring looked at by a jeweler, to see if it could be sized and if it was
even worth putting the effort into sizing it. It's an old ring purchased...

Loose gems by

I have recently been given a large collection of loose gems (rubies,

Jeweler's Desk Question by
Charles
Hello,
I am purchasing a jeweler's desk to use for creating jewelry.
Most of the desks I see online are 39 inches tall, which seems
unnaturally tall for a desk to me. I have found others that are 34
inches.
Can anyone who owns such a desk tell me what the advantages of a
39-inch tall desk is...

"Gunk" Under Prongs in Engagement Ring by
sbright
Sounds like dirt (to be honest). A good soak in the ultrasonic followed by
a little steaming should fix it.
There really isn't any reason for solder to be in that spot since the head
gets solder on first and then the seats get cut. If there was solder there
the bur (seat cutter) would have cut...

Help request for identifying "ruby" by

Hi all...
I was wondering if anyone could help me with techniques to determine
what a "gemstone" actually is.
I bought a "lab created simulated ruby" via eBay recently, which I had
presumed based on my cursory web search readings to be synthetic ruby,
a.k.a. corundum, a.k.a. Al2O3.
I've found...
