Des Bromilow
G'Day,
I'm still very much starting out in this hobby (no offense to you craftsmen
who do jewellery for a living, but for me It'll always only be a sideline
hobby)
Anyway - to get to the point.
I'm trying to setup my shop based on the tools i already own, plus what ever
extras I need as each...

Gold Bracelet from Peru by
SB
I was given a gold bracelet from Peru. Bought in a reputable jewelry
store and supposedly at the "high end" for gold content. It is marked
J19K. Is it 19 Karat? or is that just some miscellaneous meaningless
stamp?
thanks,

Why jewelers encourage white gold than platinum? by
Michael
Dear All,
I am wondering why the jewelers that I have been to at least 4, are
recommending with engagement rings that white gold is better than
platinum.
It is very clear that plantinum is the superior metal on the websites
and newsgroups ( durable, last longer, no need for replating). But...

Tarnishing Sterling Silver by
Charlie
I've designed a sterling silver bracelet made from twisted wire and would
like to tarnish it so that it goes black in the cracks of the twists,
similar to the look found on bali silver beads. I've read that the thing to
use is "liver of sulphur". Now, I can't find this for sale in the UK,...

Flex-shaft tool advice, too! by
Raane
First, thank you to Peter and everyone who gave their thoughts about
soldering equipment. I think that I will take the advice of having a
"Y" connector and both full size and a little torch handpieces. Still
haven't decided on gas, yet, although I am leaning toward acetylene
and oxygen.
Being...

White gold plating by
NE333RO
I seem to remember reading an article in the past that had to do with white
gold electroplating using a computerized set up that closely monitered ph,
voltage, etc., and took two metals out of the same solution (I think it was
gold and palladium). Am I misremembering this? Is there a way to...

Diamond Pricing Mystery
I have a pretty good understanding of the 4 C's and I understand the
control De Beers has on the diamond market.
Pricing of diamonds is still a mystery to me. I cannot seem to find
any "rule of thumb pricing" for caret weights with varying Clarity,
Color and Cut...

care for gold advice by
m4816k
I got a 10 gram oval gold bar/pendant (it's got an 18K hoop for wearing as a
pendant) from 999.9 fine gold. I was wondering is
someone could advise me on what would be the best way to clean it, without
demaging the surface? It's got some flower motif on a highly polished
surface, so I don't know...

wide rings, and sizing - help by
Des Bromilow
G'Day,
I recall a discussion concerning the sizing of wider rings, and I cannot
locate the reference.
Basically I have a 4mm ring with an ID of 20.5mm. the owner wants me to make
a ring to suit the same finger, but at 8mm wide.
I know that a comfort fit is typically specified for rings of this...
