[email protected]
I'm having trouble anodising titanium 6AL/4V at the higher voltages -
I'm trying to get the higher voltage blue and green (top of the
voltages). I can get the colors but they appear dull - even on a mirror
buffed piece. The lower voltage colors - gold, purple, blue, yellow come
out great - you can...

Flatware Pics by
Jack Schmidling
Probably not up to the standards of the masters, but I have now completed
(more or less) a knife, fork and rest. Actually, I made 6 of the rests a
few weeks ago and included one in the picture.
The picture includes an inset showing the rough casting of the next fork.
The advantages of lost wax...

Crystal Structure by
santaclaws
There's a number of these crystal structures that form in nature.
Wonder how many of you know that! Each of those molecules that
form colour and sparkle have structure and shape. Not many
chemists here then aye. And do you know about 'how and why'
certain visible frequencies of colour are...

Beavertail bails - desperate! by
Marlene DeLugish
Hi all ....... does anyone know where I can get beavertail bails to use on
earrings? To be more specific, beavertail bails are flat, shaped somewhat
like a beavertail and have a small hole at the end so that an earwire can be
placed in it. They are glued onto the back of a cab, and come in...

smith torch question/s by
Des Bromilow
Hi,
I have managed to by a smith little torch, and am trying to run it on LPG
and Compressed air (one of the local jewellers reckons it can be done.)
He claims that with LPG at 2.8kPa, and compressed air at 20 PSI (or mouth
blown) I should be able to get a small tight cone on a #5 tip.
What I am...

water torch question/s by
Des Bromilow
Hi,
regarding the ongoign saga of trying to get my torch working, it was
suggested that I try O2 in the torch instead of compressed air.
Given I don't have an oxygen setup (bottles and reg) and the recurring
bottle ental is a bit pricey, I was curious about making my own O2 by an
electrolysis...

casting-"acrylic resin" by

Jim
I haven't seen liquid acrylic resin in craft stores for about 20 years
here. A good substitute can be found in dept stores which have an
automotive section. It is used in conjunction with fiberglass for
patching auto bodies. "Bondo polyester fiberglass resin w/hardner" is
one. "Permatex" is...

Niello suppliers? The old r.c.j FAQ? by
Neil Marsh
Greetings,
Does anyone know of a commercial source for ready-to-use niello? I'd
take a shot at making my own but, considering the aroma it's apt to
generate, I'm not sure it would be a neighborly thing to do in a
suburban setting.
Also, does the old rec.crafts.jewelry faq still exist...

tiny threads by
Carl West
So I sprung for a _cheap_ threading plate and taps:
http://h00050207be9f.ne.client2.attbi.com/metal/TinyThreads.jpg
The upper holes are clearly for cutting. The lower holes are threaded
but it's not clear to me what I'm supposed to do with them. Embossing?
Finishing? Checking?
The taps seem to...
