glazing greenware by
Mandy Farrier
The studio I work in had a misfiring, and I glazed some pieces I thought had
been bisqued, but were actually still greenware. They haven't been fired
yet, but I am wondering if I can just high-fire them as if they had been
bisqued. I've heard that there is a way to skip the bisque step, but...

Beowulf
ok i am a real newbie, but an experienced potter (finishing his MA in
ceramics, a working potter) told me that I could fire ^10 clay down to ^6
if needed. What say the rest of you? Or can ^10 only be fired at ^10?

bisque firing stacking by
Steve Powell
I have stacked dinner plates four high. The foot rings are largely the same
size. Am I likely to regret my economic stacking, or can I get away with it?
Thanks
Steve.

Any recommendations on instructional videos for using the wheel to throw
various forms? I notice that axner.com sells a number of videotapes, but
are they any good, since they are bit costly?

Easy Projects by
Mpchet
Hi,
I teach mentally disfunctional adult students for 1 hr each week. We've done a
lot of slab and pinched pieces and I'm just wondering if anyone has any really
great, easy projects that they might be willing to share. I'm kind of getting
burned out and need some new fresh ideas.
As far as...

burnishing? by
Wumpus
Can anyone tell me how burnishing is done?
I've done it while trimming using a hard flat stainless steel surface,
pressed against the clay as it rotates. But this is only partly
successful.
I have heard that people use river rocks but I have had no success
in my limited experiments with those....

casserole dish by
sandi
Hi everyone,
I just made my first covered casserole dish and it's all trimmed and ready
to be set aside to finish drying. I was wondering if I should finish drying
it with the lid off or on. I know you should bisque with lid on. Thank you
for your help.

stupid newbie question on kiln firing by
Beowulf
ok i am just a newbie, so this will sound stupid-- what exactly is the
purpose of "bisque" firing, what is it, is it really needed or can a piece
simply be maybe dried out for a month? I think it is a sort of
low-temp prefiring to get all the water of the clay?

Drying question by
Hello - I'm sure this question's been asked a billion times on this
newsgroup, but I just blew up half my kiln-load of Christmas presents and am
in a bit of a bind. I'm guessing a couple large (14") bowls still had some
moisture in the bases. So, with ten days left, any suggestions on how...

Michael Casson by
Jake Loddington
Sad to read the obituary of Michael Casson.
I have emailed the BBC to try to persuade them to re-run (perhaps on
BBC-4?) the five-part series called 'The Craft of the Potter', devised
by Mick Casson and broadcast initially in 1976.
